About Deputy Mayor Dia Bryant
Dr. Dia N. Bryant serves as Deputy Mayor for Education in Jersey City, where she leads the city’s education agenda and works across government, schools, and community partners to expand opportunity for young people. A nationally recognized education leader, her career spans classroom teaching, school founding, district leadership, and statewide policy.
Dr. Bryant began her career as a New York City Teaching Fellow in Brooklyn, teaching mathematics and gaining firsthand insight into the strengths and limitations of large public systems. She later founded and led a public school, building instructional culture, developing educators, and driving student outcomes—experience that continues to inform her approach to system-level leadership.
She went on to serve in senior leadership roles within the New York City Department of Education, including Special Assistant to the First Deputy Chancellor under Chancellor Richard Carranza, where she helped design and implement system-wide strategies focused on equity, leadership development, and instructional improvement across the nation’s largest school district.
As Executive Director of The Education Trust–New York, Dr. Bryant led a statewide policy and advocacy agenda advancing equity and access. She mobilized cross-sector coalitions and played a key role in establishing the New York Alliance for Early College Pathways and securing a $64.58 million Early College Opportunity Fund in the state’s 2025 budget.
In addition to her public service, Dr. Bryant advises school systems, state agencies, and nonprofit organizations on strategy, leadership, and data-driven improvement. She also co-leads the National Math Improvement Project, supporting major urban districts in strengthening high- quality mathematics instruction at scale.
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Bryant believes public education is the foundation of democracy. She is known for her ability to connect policy vision to classroom reality, mobilize diverse coalitions, and design systems that deliver on its promise to all learners—from birth through the workforce.
