Jersey City Council President Denise Ridley
Council President and Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, a lifelong Jersey City resident, has represented Ward A since 2018. A champion for her community, she leveraged her corporate and entrepreneurial experiences to advocate for responsible development and secure additional funding for her Ward. As a mom, business woman, and community servant, she remains dedicated to strengthening Jersey City.
Her primary election issues were more affordable housing, bringing long-overdue investments in recreation, and prioritizing public safety.
Council President Ridley earned her undergraduate degree at Hampton University and her master’s degree at Montclair State University. Through the years, Denise has provided pro bono executive coaching as well as developed new job descriptions, performance management structures, and discipline policies for companies in the pharmaceutical and education industries. She is a licensed real estate agent.
Ms. Ridley is currently a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and the Rotary Club. She serves as Council President, Chairwoman of the Bayfront Redevelopment Advisory Board, Chairwoman of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, and a member of the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation Board. She has also served as Committeewoman for her voting district since first being elected in 2013.
