About

Sonia Thomas is a highly respected grants strategist, federal advisor, and community advocate with more than 18 years of experiences shaping public policy, building cross sector alliances, and advancing organizational sustainability. 


As CEO of Joint-Source Consultants, she leads a certified MWBE/SBE consulting firm 

specializing in grants management, compliance training, and capacity building solutions for nonprofits, tribal governments, municipalities, institutions of higher education. and faith based organizations. She is a member of the Grants Professional Association and also a member of the National Grants Management Association and National Notary Association. 


Sonia’s leadership has left a lasting mark across federal and local institutions. As Resident

Services/Security Director at the Hoboken Housing Authority, she implemented a transformativeCommunity Policing Program and oversaw key resident support initiatives. She later served as Executive Director of the the Hoboken Jubilee Center, guiding youth development programming and cultivating strategic partnerships on behalf of underrepresented children and families who reside in Hoboken Housing.  


Her federal service includes distinguished roles at U.S. Department of Agriculture (Forest

Service) ,FEMA, HUD, and the DHS Secretary’s Office—where she managed high-stakes

stakeholder engagement and policy briefings with a nexus to immigration and Victim Services in the New York Coty area, including Westchester, Long Island and all five Boroughs. 


A Certified Professional Manager, Sonia has presented to the NYC Rotary several times and facilitated over 250 stakeholder engagements.  Her workshops - such as Grants Management 101 and Understanding and Decoding RFPs 

facilitated over 250 stakeholder engagements. Her workshops— such as “Grants Management 101” and “Understanding RFPs” equips mission driven organizations with clear, ethical strategies to thrive in complex funding environments.  


Sonia’s consulting work reflects her passion for operational excellence, cultural humility, and sustainable growth for community programs. She is a longtime HudsonCounty resident and likes to stay active in the community.  She is a member of the Jersey City Rotary Club.  

Sonia was raised in the military and considers herself a global citizen.  She is quite proud of  her federal service which spans four federal agencies, including her recent retirement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. 

Her favorite memories are living in Ethiopia and on Okinawa.  She has one daughter and likes to spend her time playing the bass guitar, watching British tv and hanging out with her rescue dog Simba.
