After months of advocating on your behalf, the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to report that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today approved funding for expanded PATH service as part of a $45 billion 2026-2035 Capital Plan.
Notably, the Port Authority's action includes a substantial increase in PATH service with more frequent trains on weekends and during peak weekday hours and for the first time in 25 years, reintroduces direct weekend service from JSQ-33rd and HOB-WTC beginning in mid 2026. It is a significant advocacy win for Hudson Chamber members and for the entire Hudson County business community.
For several months, the Hudson Chamber led a strong push for improved weekend and off-peak PATH frequency. Weekend ridership now exceeds pre-pandemic levels, requiring service to be adjusted to reflect current needs. Overcrowding, long wait times, and platform congestion have directly affected local business, tourism, retailers, commuters and residents. Reliable transit is critical for economic growth, to respond to congestion pricing, and to prepare for FIFA World Cup 26TM. We raised these concerns directly with Port Authority leadership.
This effort was strengthened greatly by the support of Hudson County Complete Streets, a valued Chamber member, whose coordination with political and community leaders helped amplify the urgency of this issue and build broad support for expanded PATH service.
Today’s announcement is a direct response to these and other community efforts. Our success together underscores the value of strong and consistent advocacy.
Together, we elevated the voice and strength of Hudson County’s business community and secured a meaningful improvement that will support growth and mobility across the region. Thank you for your continued engagement and for being part of a Chamber that delivers on its commitment to connect, empower, and advocate for our members.
